Summer DTS

Do you want to know God more and make Him known to the local community of Davos, Switzerland and other parts of the world? Are you up for a radical change in your life?

summer

The SummerDTS has all elements of a 'normal' DTS (Discipleship Training School). Our mandate of the school is to life a radical christian lifestyle, to call forth other for a radical relationship with God. The same time we want to serve the people in need.
Davos is just a beautiful piece of Gods wonderful creation. In midst of the Swiss Alps, surrounded by mountains and with a small lake, there are may opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and experience God through that.

Is a Summer DTS for me?

keschThe DTS is for those who want their lives to count in eternity. It is about Christian character, and it is more than theory. It is a journey into the heart of God - a journey of discovery where God's ways become your own. Emphasis is not necessarily on knowledge gained but on principles applied; it is not minds filled with facts but hearts filled with faith. Knowing God personally and obeying Him completely is the bottom line.
The DTS is a special time in your life to seek and know the Lord better. We are committed to doing all we can to help you realize this goal. All staff are non-salaried missionaries dedicated to the training and equipping of Christians who want their lives to count for God and impact their world and generation for good.
Our heart is not to take you out of the “real world” to give you a nice experience with God. We want to see you rise up in everyday situations, to be a witness of God and an Ambassador of Christ, driven by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Alongside with the Summer DTS we will run a Skateboarders DTS. This way you will mix up with some other people of different interest. We will live and learn together during the week while we have some different activities on the weekends and a different focus on outreach.

Activities?

This is always a big question. Let’s just get it out of our way. A full learning week in a DTS program requires a 50h involvement as a student. These 50h include Lectures, Worship, Intercession, Outreach Preparation, Assignments like reading and book reports, local outreach and so on. You see it is quiet a busy time, but you will be able to go and hang out at the lake, to play some beach volley ball or do other kinds of fun stuff.

We are also planing some weekend activities every other weekend, e.g. we will rent some mountain bikes, go for a two day hike and sleep in a hut or do some other hikes.

Course Description

Course Description

bike_davos_sertigThis school is an intensive Christian discipleship course with an 11-week lecture/teaching phase and an 11 week practical field assignment. It is a prerequisite for all other courses in the University of the Nations, and also serves to orient and prepare all new YWAM staff. The DTS encourages students in personal character development, cultivating their relationship with God and identifying their unique individual gifts and callings. Cross-cultural exposure and global awareness are special emphases throughout the course, preparing the students to evangelize and disciple current and future generations, answering the call to “Go into all the world and teach (make disciples of) all nations.” (Matthew 28:19)

The SummerDTS runs together with our Sk8DTS to extend our family and mix with some more people with different interest as we have. Altogether no more then 20 Students to ensure the best discipleship possible on a personal level. Our heart is to be one big family, where we help each other to grow in God and where we share the love of God to our friends around us. For the SummerDTS that will be around 10 people.

Phase 1, Lectures (IDS 701)

summer3A general week during phase one will consist of daily lectures with different teachers, worship, intercession (prayer), outreach preparation, work duties, evangelism, bible study, personal devotions and assignments... It will be a productive time. The curriculum is in the following six major categories: God’s nature and character; God’s intentions for individuals, peoples and nations; seeing all of life from God’s perspective; redemption, sin, and the cross; God’s family - the Church; God’s world - His call and commission; the ministries of YWAM.

Phase 2, Outreach (ID702) The emphasis is on the application of principles taught in the DTS lecture phase coupled with teaching on evangelism concepts and practices, equipping students to share their faith in a variety of ways.
After Outreach we will meet up in Switzerland to have another two weeks together to share our experience on the school and to get you ready for your next step in life.

Community Living Standards

YWAM Davos is for Christians who are committed to the Great Commission (Mat. 28:18-19), which includes living a Godly life worthy of example. Your time here will be enjoyable, rewarding and challenging. We are committed to helping you grow as a disciple of Jesus and we look forward to you being here. Being a disciple of Jesus includes taking responsibility for your life and conduct.

Exclusive Relationships
This will be a very special time for you, where you can focus on God and build excellent friendships with both sexes that will last for more than just 6 months. We all come from various backgrounds and cultures and have different needs and ideas of relationships. To remain focused during the school we ask that no “boyfriend/girlfriend” relationships are developed. We find that this provides a healthy environment where students are able to trust each other and enjoy developing godly friendships without all the confusion of a dating relationship. Time spent on the school is like no other as it is a great investment that will continue to influence you for the rest of your life. Because of this, there is no room for relationship difficulties to become a distraction.

Drugs, Tobacco and Alcohol
Most of the evangelical community of the world considers alcoholic drinks and tobacco products totally off limits. Often in these contexts, alcohol and tobacco use is viewed as a sign that someone either does not know God or is turning away from Him. People from different nations, denominations and backgrounds come to do a school with us, so it is important that we as a family understand and honor one another in our conversations and actions.
Davos has a huge problem with kids, as young as 12 years old, drinking and going to the bars and clubs. Davos is known as THE party town. The local community and churches will watch us closely in how we deal with this whole issue.
On the base, alcohol and smoking are not allowed. Though we aren't making any rule about drinking alcohol off YWAM property. We ask you to be wise and moderate in consuming it. If you are suffering with an addiction of tobacco (regularly smoking) or alcohol, this will be a great opportunity to get rid of it. If we recognize that you might have a problem with any of these we might make some personal guidelines for you to help you get rid of it. Drinking (in most parts of the world) and smoking are not allowed on outreach. Drugs are absolutely prohibited and are grounds for immediate dismissal from school.
